The first label linked to the site's root, “1” referred to this page, and “2” linked to pottery-gallery-2.html. That compact sequence belongs to an earlier portfolio organization, before later navigation introduced date-based galleries such as “Current work 2020” and “Gallery 2018–2020.”

The surrounding menu was equally compact: home, Gallery, shop, and contact. Together with “Pottery / 1 / 2,” those links show that Gallery 1 functioned as a direct visual browsing page, not as an essay or a dated studio-news entry.

Gallery 1 has no captions or body copy here. It is not assigned a date range or given the 2005–2010 label from Gallery 2. The displayed plate study is a generic editorial illustration, separate from the historical portfolio.

An image-led page

A sparse gallery page can still carry meaning through photographs, sequencing, and concise navigation. Here, the title, URL, and numbered relationship establish Gallery 1's place within the site, while specific object titles, materials, dimensions, dates, and ownership remain unassigned.

This treatment avoids two errors. Replacing the page with unrelated educational copy would disguise its gallery purpose, while inventing specific artworks would create false evidence. The generic plate illustration supports the site's visual character without making an attribution.

The page title also matters: it says “Pottery Gallery 1,” not Plates, Current Work, or Gallery 2005–2010. That distinction keeps its role clear beside the separate form-based and date-based routes.
